E-mailing Members of the Site

Postby Ken on 08 Aug 2008 16:32

I'm often asked "can you let me have so-and-so's email address", where so-and-so is a member of the site.

In fact, there is generally no need to ask - provided that both you and so-and-so are members.
You can't find anybody's e-mail address (even if you are a member) but you can still e-mail them - via the site! That's because we run an e-mail server, and some clever software 8)

This is how it works:-
  • Bring up the list of members (top right of page, click Members ) and select your friend from the list of members
  • This will bring up that Member's Profile.
From there, you can e-mail them
    You will see:-
    E-mail address: E-mail so-and-so
Click on the blue E-mail so-and-so (N.B. not on Private Message!)
  • You will be presented with a box within which to type your message.
When you have done, just click the E-mail button under it.
    Done :)

By default, you will get a copy of your e-mail, delivered to your registered e-mail address.

The recipient will get your e-mail message, and with it your e-mail address, and only needs to click Reply to start a normal e-mail exchange.

The advantages are these:-
  • e-mail addresses are never exposed - you can (in effect) send somebody your e-mail address, but you don't get to know theirs unless they respond.
  • It's far superior to having a list of e-mail addresses on a password-protected page. If somebody broke in, or we accidentally signed-up somebody we shouldn't, they still can't get at the e-mail addresses.
  • It's a very courteous way of introducing yourself to an old friend. You send them your e-mail address, rather than ask somebody (who might worry about giving it to you) for theirs.
  • It's a lot less work for me :)
Do try it.
If you want to send test messages to me, that's fine :)

Hi
I have been trying to find a way to alter my email address to a new one as I have changed providors and Supanet are no longer forwarding emails to me . I can still read them by visiting the Supanet site but it's inconvenient .

Hi Jenny :)

1. Log in

2. "User Control Panel" (top left of board)

3. Select "Profile" tab

4. On left, select "Edit account settings"

O.K. ?
Any probs, come back to me, and I'll do it for you, but meanwhile, "teach a gal to fish..." :D
